Tarragona, located in the Catalonia region of northeastern Spain, is a city steeped in history, culture, and natural beauty. Tarragona is blessed with a stunning coastline along the Mediterranean Sea, which forms part of the Costa Dorada (Golden Coast). Its sandy beaches, clear blue waters, and picturesque coves attract both locals and tourists, offering opportunities for relaxation and water sports. Tarragona, possibly founded by the Phoenicians, rose to prominence as the Roman city of Tarraco. While many archaeological remnants from this era exist, little remains of the second-century amphitheater; it was quarried for stone after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire. However, the Les Ferreres Aqueduct, also from this period, stands intact. Constructed to supply water to the ancient city, it's part of the UNESCO-listed Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco since 2000.
The city boasts a cathedral dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, blending Romanesque and Gothic architectural styles. Additionally, Tarragona is home to numerous historic churches and convents, adding to its rich cultural heritage.
